The story is about buying a gift for a lover. Della Dillingham has only $1.87. She has not enough money to buy gifts for her beloved husband, Jim. The next day is going to be Christmas day. She goes the Madame Sofronie's hair goods shop and sold her hair for $20. Now she is happy because she has enough amount to but gift for him, Jim. She is making coffee and dinner for him. When Jim arrives, he does not notice her hair. He gives them the gift which she wants for ages. Then she gives him the chain of the watch. But Jim smiles and tells her that he has sold the watch to but a gift for her. the writer tells the readers that money and wishes do not count a lot. It is the relationship that brings happiness to our lives. We should be loyal to each other. We should compromise with each other. In this way, we will lead a happy life.
